Ways to Care for your Natural Gray Hair

Gray hair is beautiful! Each and everyday, black women are embracing their natural gray color, showing the beauty of age! Many also don’t know how to properly treat their hair the right way. It is especially important with gray hair. Here are some tips on how to care for your natural gray hair!

Wash your hair no more than once a week!

You might think that you need to wash your hair every time it gets dry or brittle. That’s a big NO! There are several ways to restore your hair rather than washing it completely several days out of the week. We all know moisture is key for long luxurious hair! Which is why you must know how often to wash it regularly. Once a week is more than enough, you’d be surprised. Tip: It is best to use an old t-shirt rather than a towel, to retain moisture!

Apply a leave-in deep conditioner

Deep conditioning is coating and treating your hair with deep nourishing products. It restores your hair and reduces damage. To start, apply your product of choice to your hair shaft, but not too close to your roots. Make sure you work your way down to the ends of your hair. Also make sure those ends have a sufficient amount of product to achieve the best results. Have the product set into your hair for at least 30 minutes for the best results.

Use hot oil treatments

Hot oil treatments provide nourishments and Vitamin E to your hair. They also reduce breakage and dryness. It is recommended to use hot oils weekly to improve softness and create long-lasting moisture. Stay away from mineral oils while using hot oil treatments. Also, make sure to avoid chemical treatments as it could lead to brittle hair and severe hair breakage.

Detangle gently
African American textured hair tends to be more fragile than other types. It is crucial to gently care for your natural hair by applying a cool mist like our Let’s Restore! Leave-In Conditioner Mist, while shampooing. Detangle your hair in upwards stroke instead of downward. When finished, and once the hair is dry, tie your hair in a satin wrap or bonnet, to retain shine and protect it from excessive damage.
